Services & Spa Our Commitment to Responsible Sourcing
When we are inspired by nature every day, we cannot ignore its fragility.
At a time when many of our planet's ecosystems are under threat, Clarins is committed to sustainable agriculture that protects both people and the planet.
The sourcing of our ingredients is at the heart of our responsible approach.
THE DOMAINES CLARINS
Two groundbreaking open-air laboratories, driving innovation forward at Clarins
At Clarins, we're passionate about the plants that power our formulas.
To continue to lead the way in research and innovation, we own and operate two open-air production sites, known as the 'Domaines Clarins': Serraval in the French Alps, and Sainte-Colombe in the South of France.
With these two sites, Clarins continues to lead the way in pioneering sustainable beauty by tracking the traceability of raw materials, ensuring ethical and responsible sourcing, crafting the highest-quality, most effective formulas and pursuing innovation, for a more responsible approach to beauty.

A closer look: follow the lemon balm from field to jar through responsible sourcing
1GROWING & WEEDING:
Our organic lemon balm is grown in line with regenerative agriculture, on-site at the Domaine Clarins Serraval
2HARVESTING:
Each leaf is hand-picked to preserve its freshness
3PROCESSING:
Once they're picked, the leaves are machine-chopped and dried in the open air away from the sun
4AFTER DRYING:
The leaves are sent for extraction, before being incorporated into each formula and packaged at Clarins' Pontoise factory just outside of Paris
OUR SOURCING POLICY
Ethical and sustainable farming practices
The quality and traceability of our ingredients have always been our top priorities.

OBJECTIVE: REINFORCED TRACEABILITY AND 100% SUSTAINABLE SOURCING IN 2025
In 2021, we took another step forward by introducing a rigorous sourcing policy that covers all our raw materials.
In line with our commitment to transparency, you can trace these ingredients yourself with the Clarins T.R.U.S.T. platform. Scan the QR code on your product to track its journey from the field to your home.
Our threefold approach
PlantsBeauty from nature
Clarins research is inspired by nature.Today, 80% of the active ingredients used in our formulas come from a private herbarium of over 200 plants - our greatest asset.
We are always trying to improve the quality and traceability of our supply chains through ethical and responsible sourcing, and continue to give priority to those that respect the planet, plants and people.
Clarins Research has established criteria that any new species joining our catalogue must meet, with a particular attention to sustainable agricultural practices.

Synthetic ingredientsNATURE FIRST
At Clarins, more than 81% of the active ingredients used are of natural origin. The remaining 19% are made up of synthetic ingredients, which are only used when they are essential to the safety, effectiveness or sensoriality of our formulas. We are always looking for natural alternatives.

Natural derivativesTraceability and green chemistry
Naturally-derived ingredients are substances of natural origin - vegetable or mineral - which have undergone modifications to provide beneficial properties for the skin. This includes certain active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, delivery systems and agro-sourced solvents.

For these ingredients we choose materials that are easily biodegradable and whose manufacturing processes respect the principles of green chemistry. We also ensure they can be traced back to the country of origin. For each of these supply chains, we work in partnership with our suppliers to create programs that protect biodiversity and local communities.A better world

SAINT-COLOMBE: 50 HECTARES DEDICATED TO GROWING OUR PLANTS
First opened in 2024, Sainte-Colombe has two main goals: preserving local biodiversity, while guaranteeing top-quality raw ingredients through responsible sourcing.
Located in the Gard region in the South of France, the site is divided into two key areas:
- - an open-air farm and processing centre
- - a laboratory for studying and researching new plant species
With a unique hydrological approach to harvesting and planting, the Sainte-Colombe site will help to regenerate and improve the surrounding area in line with the principles of regenerative agriculture.
Long-term, Domaine Sainte-Colombe will be home to over 50 species of trees and plants, including nopal, quince, almond, apricot, lavender, lemon thyme, cornflower and many others. Clarins hopes to integrate a majority of these organic harvests into our skincare and beauty formulas, with a goal of 30% by 2030.
PIONEERING PRODUCTION, TRACEABLE FROM FIELD TO JAR
Opened in 2016, Serraval was Clarins' first open-air laboratory and farm. Here, you'll find the Clarins Herbarium: a botanical library, cataloguing each and every raw ingredient in our products through responsible sourcing.
Located at 1,400m above the French Alps, Serraval is home to countless species of plants and trees, grown organically and harvested with regenerative agriculture and local biodiversity in mind. All of Serraval's plants, whether cultivated or picked from the wild, benefit from this high-quality atmosphere, leaving them packed full of nutrients and skincare actives. Not only are they harvested by hand, allowing Clarins to trace each bud, leaf and petal from field to jar, they're then left to dry in the open air - a testament to their quality.
